Welcome to English Language Arts 7 Class 2024!

Welcome to ELA-7! September always brings great excitement with the start
of a new school year. Starting your studies at Boston Latin School will
definitely be an experience and a memorable endeavor! Being perseverant
and undaunted will help with your transition.

In English class, we will kick-off the school year with organizing our
materials, learning the routines of the class, and getting to know each other.
We will review the required summer reading in the first few weeks and you
will complete an in-class group project on the various themes explored in
some of the required summer reading books. Make certain to fulfill and refresh
your memory with the characters and events from the stories you selected by
September 17th. If you have any questions about the titles, please click on
this link: BLS Summer Reading Information.

After our month-long review of the summer reading, our first novel that we
will read as a class will be Dragonwings by Laurence Yep! I look forward
to working with all of you this year. As you begin your studies at
Boston Latin School, I ask that you think of Dr. Seuss’s words from
Oh, the Places You’ll go!: “You have brains in your head. You have feet
in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.” You are
at a great starting point but also a juncture. I wish you the very best with
your hard work and aspirations. I encourage you to take joy in the love of
reading and learning, but also to take pride in the hard work you will
show throughout the year and the growth you will make as students.

All the best,
~Mrs. Callum~
